The Real Problem

Your manuscript is closer than you think.

You know what you want to say. On the page, it comes out scattered, too long, not quite right, or missing the voice you hear in your head.

That is not a writing problem. That is an editorial problem. And it is exactly what Imara Editorial Studio is built to solve.

  • Chapters don't flow the way you imagined them
  • The structure feels off but you can't pinpoint why
  • You've rewritten the opening too many times to count
  • Your voice disappears somewhere between your head and the page
  • You have a complete draft and no idea what to do with it next
  • Your website doesn't sound like you or attract the clients you want
  • Your content exists but it isn't ranking or converting

About

Some editors fix sentences.
I fix books.

There is a difference between a manuscript that is grammatically clean and one that is structurally sound, emotionally true, and positioned to find the right readers. My work lives at that second level.

"I know what it takes to finish a book. I know what it costs to put your story on the page. And I know exactly what separates a manuscript from a published work."

I have been working in publishing, editorial, and content strategy for over 25 years as an author, editor, editor-in-chief, ghostwriter, and copywriter. I built my first editorial practice, Freelance Writer Chick, from the ground up and it was recognized in several high-profile publications before I rebranded as Imara Editorial Studio.

I am also a published author. My nonfiction work explores inner transformation; my YA fantasy series The Keepers of Crisilous explores grief, resilience, and the unseen forces that shape our lives. I bring both a writer's instinct and an editor's eye to every manuscript I touch.

  • 25+ years across nonfiction, memoir, fiction, thought leadership, and content strategy
  • Author, editor-in-chief, ghostwriter, and copywriter, not just an editor
  • Every editorial roadmap built around your vision, not a formula
  • Honest, direct feedback delivered with professional care
  • In practice since 2001, the expertise that only comes with time
Let's Talk About Your Project
How We Work Together

A clear path from manuscript to publication-ready.

1

Free Consultation

We start with a real conversation about your project, your goals, and where you feel the work needs the most support. You'll leave with more clarity than when you arrived, regardless of whether we work together.

2

Manuscript Assessment or Project Scope

For book clients, we begin with a full editorial read-through. For content and copy clients, we clarify scope, audience, and goals. Either way, this gives us a clear, honest foundation for everything that follows.

3

Editorial Roadmap or Content Strategy

A detailed written plan outlining what is working, what needs refinement, and the highest-impact next steps. Not a list of problems but a strategic document for taking your work to the next level.

4

Developmental Edit, Ghostwriting, or Content Production

Full editorial or content engagement, guided by the roadmap and aligned with your vision. Collaborative, transparent, and anchored to where your work needs to go.

5

Revision Support & Ongoing Partnership

Editorial work is iterative. We remain available through revisions and for retainer clients, stay in your corner month after month, ensuring the work always reflects the depth of your ideas.

The Nonfiction Author

You have expertise, lived experience, and a message that deserves a book. What you need is a structure that holds it and an editor who can see what you can't.

The Founder or CEO

You are building a brand around your ideas. A book or content platform is the deepest expression of that authority and you need it written, edited, and positioned to match the quality of your work.

The Coach or Consultant

You help people transform. Your book and your website should do the same, with structure that guides, voice that builds trust, and copy that converts readers into clients.

The Thought Leader

You have ideas that deserve a wider audience. Whether through a book, a blog, or a content strategy, your expertise needs editorial architecture that holds an argument together and keeps bringing new readers in.

Your manuscript has been waiting long enough.

From the Editor
"I have worked with incarcerated men for ten years. In that time I have read manuscripts that stunned me, stories that deserved to be published, voices that deserved to be heard. The only thing standing between those stories and the world was access to professional editorial support. That is what this division exists to provide."

a human being.

Incarcerated authors face obstacles most writers never encounter. No computer. No editor. No access to the publishing world. Manuscripts written by hand, page by page, in circumstances that would stop most people from writing at all.

"These are not authors who lack talent or vision. They are authors who lack access. Second Chance Manuscripts exists to close that gap."

The author, a family member, or an advocate reaches out by email or postal mail. Describe the project, its current stage, and what kind of support is needed. No commitment required.

2

Free Consultation

A 30-minute phone consultation with the outside contact, or a written exchange by mail with the author directly. Scope, service, and timeline are clarified before any agreement is made.

3

Manuscript Submission

The manuscript is mailed to Imara Editorial Studio. Handwritten or typed pages both accepted. If transcription is needed, it is completed first and confirmed before editing begins.

4

Editorial Work

The agreed service is completed and returned by mail to the author or their designated outside contact. Questions during the process are welcome at any time.

5

Revision Support

Follow-up questions after receiving the editorial work are included at no additional charge. All suggestions remain the author's to accept or reject.
